The Project entailed the construction of a new, purpose built facility for the short term treatment of patients who have presented at the Emergency Department and need urgent care or treatment prior to being admitted to a ward within the Hospital. This project also involved the refurbishment of multiple areas within the existing Emergency Department. The primary challenge throughout the construction of this project was working within an existing hospital environment and maintaining infection control protocols. This involved the construction of air tight hoardings and negative pressure environments to reduce there spread of dust through the building. the project was managed on a lump sum basis with New South Wakes Public Works administering the GC21 contract on behalf of the client.

LESSONS LEARNT - I was personally brought onto this project at about 20 weeks in, as the Site Manager has recently left the company. I believe the biggest lesson that I learnt on this project is to see everything as a challenge. The project was behind schedule, below quality standards and moral onsite was at an all time low. It was imperative that I turned up early and eager, that I stayed back late to achieve targets and resolve issues. And most importantly that I stayed positive throughout. While this was a small project, I will always remember the importance of site and team morale. How it not only effects both quality and programme, but how it shapes the building process.
