Development of the World Class HNE simulation-based training and education centre which encompasses a diverse range of activities for a wide range of medical students.

The HNE Centre specialises in fully immersive simulation-based team training for practising healthcare professionals, trainee doctors and nurses to practise their skills on computer-controlled mannequins that replicate routine procedures and human reactions.

The Centre has a complex fully integrated Audio Visual (AV) system, critical for the efficient running of the Centre which has the ability to remotely see, hear, play back and record activities and sounds taking place in the simulation rooms (Operating Theatre & Resuscitation Bay), via live AV feed to the two debriefing rooms. Cameras are able to pan, tilt or zoom remotely during simulation using the latest technology touch pads.

The work included demolition and removal of the existing services, Internal alterations to the existing building structure and associated services for the provision of the new office, debriefing rooms, breakout, operating theatre, store/prep, resuscitation, control, static store, entry/corridor, reception, beverage bay, scrub sink, stores.

LESSONS LEARNT - My first ‘proper’ project of my own! I could write a list as long as my arm, as to what I learnt on this job, however the biggest thing would have to be “thinking outside the box”. Within in operational hospital with limited access, even the simplest tasks become challenging. From noise and dust suppression to pumping concrete 110m through service shafts and under existing buildings. We were faced with obstacles and we overcame them with expansive thinking.
