The construction of Scenic Lodge at Merewether was the second development that North have completed for Anglican Care, continuing our strong working relationship with them. 55 bed aged care facility, with a commercial kitchen, servery areas and a lift servicing all three levels.
Making this project unique was the extensive use of control joints to manage mines subsidence due to the underlying ground conditions and existing coal mining works. With the site also backing onto the National Park, there were extensive bush fire regulations to be incorporated into the project.
Constructed on a highly exposed site in Newcastle, the unique, high end finish aged care facility was constructed within budget and programme.
LESSONS LEARNT - I believe this project taught me great deal about building processes and techniques. We had CFA Piling; waffle pod slabs; mine subsidence construction joints; concrete water holding tanks for fire protection measures; Asbestos contaminated soil removal; intricate disability requirements with sliding doors and patios etc. This project gave me a deeper understanding to the levels of detailing needed to construct such large buildings and fueled the fire within me to construct bigger and better projects.
