The buildings consisted of ‘The Depot’ - comms and control rooms; staff facilities and change room; scheduled and unscheduled maintenance facilities for the Light Rail Vehicles. In addition we completed 6 separate ‘Stops’ spread across 2.8kms, right in the heart of Newcastle CBD.
LESSONS LEARNT: This project had its fair share of challenges with tight sites; critical deadlines; design issues and working along side civil and rail contractors on the site. I believe i had a great opportunity to hone my people management skills, with multiple layers of accountability and teaching my Foreman how to manage their own teams correctly and effectively. Secondly, as a team, we adopted the ‘whatever it takes’ approach, due to the critical deadlines. This mind-frame allowed us to make major decisions for the better of the project. From contracting 4 separate structural steel fabricators/installers to having 3 different concrete companies working across our project.
