This exciting but complex building combines a church, welfare and community services, Divisional Headquarters and three other business units. The design has achieved ‘people friendly’ spaces with good flow and ease of way finding while working within the existing structure and retaining existing service areas. The Worship Hall was strategically located to maximise the ceiling height, and with a wide corridor incorporated at the entry point to facilitate pedestrian flow during peak times, it allowed people to congregate without disrupting flow.

LESSONS LEARNT - Within 2 weeks of starting on this project I was promoted from Leading Hand, through to the Site Foreman. It needed a push and was lacking direction. The key lesson that I have learnt from this project would be specific to demolitions; additions and renovations, as there were a large amount of ‘grey’ areas within the project. Areas that lacked detail in the documentation, however the client was expecting works to be carried out. Since this project I have conducted site walks with client and the consultants to ensure there is a clear understanding of the levels of work and finishes for each room (specifically renovations with rooms that ‘remains as is’). This ensures that all parties are clear with what the end result will look like and if funds are being allocated to the correct areas of the project. We now like to call this ‘managing the clients expectations’, and ensuring there re no surprises upon handover.
